Chronic vs. Acute Pain

chronic painThere is often some misunderstanding as to what constitutes ‘chronic’ pain. The different labels – chronic versus acute – in fact relate to the period of time the individual has been experiencing it, not in fact the quality of the pain itself.

Chronic pain is pain which has persisted for over 12 weeks.

This is very different to acute pain, which is shorter term and is a very normal response to injury.

I work with both using sports/clinical massage and soft tissue techniques, assisted release, stretching and Neurokinetic Therapy. I like to involve clients in their own recovery – with simple ‘homework’ advice’ – a partnership approach has much greater success in the long term.
